Remembering Walter “Dusty” Saunders, who wrote for the Rocky Mountain News for more than 53 years. He started as a copy boy on Labor Day, 1953. By March 1954 he was a reporter, covering the police and city hall. Dusty was the longest serving radio and tv columnist/reporter in Denver, covering the beat for forty years. He retired from the Rocky Mountain News May 31, 2007. After leaving the Rocky Mountain News he wrote a weekly column on sports media for the Denver Post and published an autobiography.
A University of Colorado graduate, he was a president of the Television Critics Association as well as the Denver Press Club. He is in the Denver Press Club Hall of Fame.
Dusty passed away Sunday, May 29th 2022 at 90. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
