On January 8, 1955, 1580 AM KLAK signed on the air. They broadcast from an old house on Oak Street in Lakewood situated next to a train track. When a train went by they just stopped talking on mic until the train passed. The first song on the air was “This Ole House” by Stewart Hamblin. KLAK later moved to 1600 AM, where they broadcast for over two decades.
