Our friend Jon McNutt passed on September 6, 2023 in Cheyenne, Wyoming (where he resided in recent years) at 79. Jon was a longtime Broadcast Pioneers of Colorado member, a participant in First Tuesday events and active with Denver Dinosaurs.

Jon Mack McNutt was born August 2, 1944 in Grand Island, Nebraska. He began his work in radio as an account executive at KODY AM radio in North Platte, Nebraska in March, 1966. He was there until moving to KYSN, Colorado Springs in the summer of 1968. He was at KYSN for six years. as an account executive.

From June 1974 to June 1979, Jon was Junior Partner and Owner of Mountain Media Radio/TV, representing 120 stations in 16 states to agenecies in the Denver, Colorado Springs and Salt Lake City markets.

Jon joined KLZ AM in May, 1979 as local account executive, serving as Local Sales Manager from March 1981 to June 1982, and again throughout 1986. In December 1986, he became KLZ/KAZY General Sales Manager/Director of Sales. He handled all national sales, and hired and supervised the local sales manager and local sales staff. He was at KLZ/KAZY until April, 1990.

For five years, from January 1990-January 1995, Jon was an account executive for KYBG-AM (K-Big). For many years, Jon did promotional/marketing sales for Stellar Promotions West, including helping BPC with the creation of the Hall of Fame plaques and awards.

Jon was very involved in BPC, serving as an officer and member. With Shiela Schaeffer (who passed in late 2021) and Norma Forbes (who passed in February), Jon planned many of the Denver Dino events.

Jon was married over 46 years to Beverly, who passed in 2018. He was active with the Western Cherokee Nation, serving as an officer in recent years. He was Council Chief for the Point Remove Band, in Conway, AR, which is working towards federal recognition from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He actively researched his family history, and was very proud of his heritage.

We honor Jon’s memory and are thinking of his family, including his 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
