July 7th, 1951: 1280 KTLN’s morning man Rocky Rauch reports via Billboard magazine that Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys just wrapped up a two week stint at Lakeside Amusement Park. Lakeside typically featured pop bands so hosting the country & western Wills was a change. Years later, in the 1960s, Rauch would tour with Bob Wills.
Rauch was on KTLN Denver 1950-1952 while also playing with “the Western Serenaders.” While in Denver he opened the “Record Corral” record store and also started a “combination roller rink-ballroom.”
From Denver, Rauch went to radio jobs in Trinidad, Albuquerque and El Paso (where he also had a daily TV show in 1954). By 1957 he was on the air at KRLC Lewiston, Idaho. He left and returned, rejoining KRLC in the mid 1980s. Rauch died in 1992, collapsing in the studio during his morning show.
