The Beatles played their only concert in Colorado at Red Rocks on August 26, 1964 during their first North American tour. The event was notorious as it was the only location on the tour that didn’t officially sell out, though there were numerous reports of kids sneaking into the venue for free due to lax security and ticket admission practices at the time. Pictures from the concert show Red Rocks was nearly, if not totally full. Regardless, the Beatles never returned to Colorado on subsequent tours.
Though the concert was not broadcast, local radio and television stations covered the event extensively as Beatle Mania had overtaken the whole country. From their arrival at Stapleton Airport, a press conference at the Brown Palace Hotel to the show itself, local media followed the Beatles every move.
Denver’s premier rock station KIMN was the official sponsor of the show. Tickets were only $6.50.
